Gaspe and North Forillon

We met Gerard outside of a cafe in L’Anse-au-Griffon-Nord, just north of Forillon National Park. He came here 40 years ago and simply couldn’t leave.

He lives in Douglastown where he teaches adventure tourism in Cegep (grade 13). He created the program, and soon his son, also a teacher, will be taking it over.

In the summer, he is an avid biker. In the winter, he backcountry skis the local mountains. The Gaspe “is his playground”. He is very fortunate.

Gerard

After lunch and our chat with Gerard, we traveled north to Fox River looking for a fish store, and found this one right beside the docks.

Fresh cod and mussels.

And here’s what was going on just a stones throw away – unloading the day’s catch of shrimp. Can’t get any fresher than this. The cod and mussels that we got were amazing.

A couple dinners in hand, we headed to the north part of Forillon National Park which includes a marsh area boardwalk and some nice beaches with views of the Griffon lighthouse.

Then it was on to the Mont Saint-Alban hike, a 2 km uphill grind to an amazing lookout platform.

Another from the trailhead.

It was still a bit hazy from wildfire smoke, but not too bad.
