We are midway through the Newfoundland portion of our adventure and meet up with Deep Cove friends for morning coffee. Belinda and Andrew are on a two week driving holiday – working their way East from Deer Lake / Gros Morne NP to St John’s. We are west bound. Our crossover point is Bear Mountain Coffee House near Clarenville, where we arrive a minute apart right on the dot of 10 am. We exchange travel stories and tips and then head off to our next destination.
Today is Saturday August 5th and it is a busy travel day in Newfoundland (like BC it is a long weekend). We end up taking a few more breaks this day.
We are heading to Fogo Island from Saint John’s so it is a two EV charge day. It is also a day we experience having to wait at both chargers – Port Blandford and Gander.
At Port Blandford we wander down to the water and find some railway history.

In Gander we pass the time having a picnic.
At Fogo we set up the tent, get Chinese food for dinner and fall asleep to the wedding tunes from the hall nearby.
The next morning we chat with fellow tenters Joyce and Harold. They have travelled 70 km from their home in Birchy Bay. One of their daughters lives in Kelowna and we chat about a possible house swap in the future.
As we say goodbye we are invited for coffee on our way through Birchy Bay. And we do stop for coffee and a long visit on Tuesday morning on our way to Gros Morne.
One of the special perks of travel is connecting with friends and relatives you haven’t seen for awhile, crossing paths with ‘local’ friends, and meeting new friends.
Priceless!
