The final leg of this adventure will be on VIA Rail. And we are really looking forward to 4 days and nights on the train; and a firm arrival date into Vancouver of 8:00am October 29th. (No more logistics and looking at the weather forecast!)
We are on The Canadian. We are heading home!
Train Logistics
We have a double sleeper. Our seat will be made up into bunk beds after dinner then returned to a seating formation while we have breakfast. The upper panel pulls down into a bed. Val loves the top bunk!
It takes a bit to get used to sleeping as the train sort of sways you into slumber.
Meals – a bit like cruising, each day you sign up for either first or second sitting for both lunch and dinner. We choose first sitting on a recommendation from some savvy rail travel fellow travellers. And we stick with that for the trip. Food was very good and there were 4 choices for mains at every meal with no duplications over the four days. We were always seated with another couple at a table for four-but it was random-and depended upon who arrived at the meal car just before or after we did. Made for great conversations. Meals were not rushed.
Dome cars are the best! Our train had three to choose from. We spent most of our daylight hours here.
The views were grand!
The train made few stops of any length. We got off the train in Winnipeg and Jasper.
In Winnipeg we had about an hour to dash over to The Forks Market for a beer.
The stop in Jasper is the longest of the trip-three hours-from about 6am to 9am. The coffee places and gift shops are open for the travellers. Even in the wee hours Jasper is spectacular.
The displays inside the historic station were interesting too. We love the old photos and posters.
We are welcomed back to BC under beautiful blue skies. First off is Mount Robson.
After one last sleep we arrive in Vancouver. Patti and Lionel greet us. A terrific homecoming!
