Maritimes – Day 1

Weโ€™ve posted a couple of blog entries hastily. We have added to the bottom of two recent posts: Pakenham (something of interest about curling) and Kingston (some cute photos of Pat with Aspen). Check it out!!!

Okay – it is Day 20 and we ventured into Province #7 – New Brunswick. Crazy!!!

Weather update: we havenโ€™t seen any (measurable) rain on our trip so far. I am curious when and where we will encounter rain and how much. The weather gods have been overly generous in the first 20 days.

Today the wildfires in Northern Quebec have caused some air quality alerts and kept the sun from shining through as we approached New Brunswick.

Campbellton New Brunswick is a quick stop but we are coming back!! (We travelled through northern NB – Edmundston to Campbellton to be exact – to access Gaspe.) Looking forward in the next few weeks; after Gaspe weโ€™ll be back in New Brunswick travelling along the Northumberland Strait and then to PEI for Canada Day (and to meet as many of the McGuire clan as possible) ๐Ÿ˜€.

Campbellton- the highlight was climbing Sugarloaf Mountain to the lookout. We started out in the wrong trail but course corrected onto the beautiful Terry Fox trail. Iโ€™ll let the photos tell the story.

The campsite at Sugarloaf Mountain was lovely and busy. In winter the park is popular for skiing and in summer it is equally popular with mountain bikers. It reminded me of Sun Peaks – a mountain bike park accessible by chairlift.

A note about charging our car. We have had only one small glitch in Quebec and New Brunswick. The chargers are newer and we are able to avoid Petro Canada. Petro Canada has not maintained itโ€™s charging infrastructure. So while they put in the first chargers from BC to Nfld, many of these chargers have not been upgraded and are not a fun user experience.

Charger reliability is a relief. Our travel times are more predictable and when we arrive at our destination we arenโ€™t so brain dead. ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€

Next weโ€™ll tell you about our trip to Forillon National Park in Quebec. Stay tuned!

Glad to hear you have made good headway with the chargers. Those Petro Canada are such pesky people.

Love your views on the hike.
