The Irish Loop

The Irish Loop is a road trip around the southern section of the Avalon peninsula, south of St. John’s.

It was a bit of a dreary day – a good time for a road trip. We went clockwise from Holyrood, and the first stop was a quick one at Witless Bay.

Then we went on to the new East Coast Trail suspension bridge, near La Manche.

The earth’s crust got pushed almost vertical here, making for an interesting trail surface.

This was probably a small fishing village at one time. We came across the remains of what looked to be a house and root cellar.

The trail lead to Doctor’s Cove, one of the rockiest we’d seen.

Then it was on to the Ferryland Lighthouse.

Val loves these fences.
Time for a haircut.

After Ferryland, we drove south into the fog. It was pretty thick until we got to our last stop, St. Vincent’s Beach.

Here the pebble beach falls away fast, allowing whales to follow capelin almost to the shoreline. It was pretty cool to see.

You know, if it was not for your blog I would not have such an interesting glimpse of the landscape. It has given me a mirror to the rest of Canadas east coast.

BTW, your hair looks fine. Go for the Tom Hanks deserted island look.
