Two Sore Backs

Our last day in Saint John’s.

Cape Spear is the eastern most point in Canada. As we drove towards Cape Spear we had our fingers crossed that the fog would clear. It did.

Walking around on the trails you see the remnants of the gun battery. You realize this was not a plumb posting – it could be pretty miserable most of the year. (We are visiting on August 4th.) There are audio interviews from soldiers during WW2 and a lot of complaints about the cold weather.

The lighthouse at Cape Spear has been restored with the interior representative of around 1839. This lighthouse is the oldest in Newfoundland and Labrador.

We spent the afternoon in nearby Petty Harbour.

Afterwards we had a wonderful visit and cup of tea with Auntie Linda and said our goodbyes. We promised we’d be back. We left Avalon Peninsula with another week of adventures to come back to do.
