Two Sore Backs

We are not referring to recovering from a night out; we mean this literally! We have hurricane Franklin to thank for these recent storms and our wet trail shoes.

(Some irony here – I am writing this blog post on the eve of Hurricane Lee’s anticipated landing near Yarmouth on Sep 16. We will be in Moncton for a couple of nights to experience the intense rain and wind.)

After the rain at Louisbourg we are thankful for a night at an Airbnb and sunshine in the following days. By the way, our trail shoes finally dry out three days later!

We head to Antigonish directly from Louisbourg. We manage to dry out in the car. Quick dry clothing is a blessing. There is a wait for a table at The Townhouse so we pop across the street to Oak Manor Brewery. The pub is full of young students reconnecting after a summer away because this is a university town – Saint Francis Xavier University – and it is the end of August. That brings back memories.

We grab a quick brew and our table is ready. Dinner is spectacular and dessert is on the house – homemade maple walnut ice cream.

We have an Airbnb in nearby Livingston Cove. It is late and the drive is in the pitch dark. There are still scattered showers. I am happy to be the passenger. We roll in around 10pm. The space is wonderful.

At breakfast we chat with Mollie and she invites us upstairs to her home. Pat takes a few more photos.

We really hate to leave.

We drive back in to Antigonish and this time we can see the countryside. We make a few stops to check out a lighthouse and little ports and beaches. The rain water is struggling to find places to drain.

We wander around Antigonish and stop for lunch. Today’s street scene includes many frosh with parents in tow. Lots of out of province licence plates, mainly Ontario.

The sun returns. We overnight near Pictou at Caribou-Munroes Provincial Park.

Then head off to the Atlantic coast. Our next stop is Wentzell Lake (near Bridgewater). Our friends Dianne and Jeff moved there a year ago.
