We’ve mentioned this before – as we travel through all of the amazing places in Atlantic Canada, we have fun imagining what life here would be like. We check out real estate prices, and shake our heads. We imagine being minutes away from most of the activities we love. We wonder what it would be like to have a view that you could spend all day looking at. But we know in our hearts that it will never happen. Our family is in the west.
For Jeff and Dianne it was a bit different. Originally from Ontario, they had, within a short number of years, made a nice life in Vancouver – lots of friends, deep involvement with the Marpole Curling Club, fishing, hiking and camping throughout southwest BC. But when they were travelling through Nova Scotia last year, part of a huge cross-continent trip with their Airstream, and thinking all the same things we think about, they also had family ties pulling them eastward. Understandably, when they saw this property on Wentzells Lake, north of Bridgewater NS, they couldn’t resist.

The sweet spots for morning coffee.

The cats are enjoying the new place. Especially Gina, who is fast becoming an outdoor cat.

Lots of room for the toys.

Great fishing just out the back door.

Some nice touches as they make it their own.

The start of a nice vegetable garden. The tomatoes were great.

A beautiful place to paddle. This is Dianne at the north end of the lake, where the La Havre river enters. Photo by Val.

And speaking of fishing, I was lucky to get two trips in with Jeff. The first was on their lake, Wentzells Lake.

It’s customary here to feed the eagles.
On the second day we took Jeff’s inflatable boat to two of the local lakes, literally 10 minutes down the road. The first was New Canada Lake, a beauty, with lots of bass. They are fun to catch, and we caught a bunch!

Then we went over to Wagner Lake, another lovely one, known to have fewer, bit bigger fish. We did pretty well there too.

We enjoyed some great meals, and some terrific sunsets at their place. They’re great cooks.

We would have liked to stay longer, but we still have some travel check boxes to tick off!

It was great to see Jeff and Dianne so happy in their new place.
