Our SE Asia trip is inspired by our invite to Chris and Carlee’s Koh Chang destination wedding.
Arriving
Koh Chang, Thailand is next door to Cambodia so the logistics from Rainbow Lodge are straightforward.
First, the familiar long tail boat to Tatai dock.

Then a 40 minute Tuk tuk ride to Koh Kong city.

Pat mentions that the Cambodian highways are under construction and this stretch is no different. It is a fun 40 minutes!

Next is the transfer to a van for a short drive to the Cambodian-Thailand border.
Fun fact: so far in our travels cars are left hand drive (like home) BUT Thailand is the opposite (and this carries on to Malaysia and Singapore).
After walking across the border, we transfer to another van that takes us FINALLY to the Koh Chang ferry. (This is where we thought we were taking an island hoping ferry instead of a van/short ferry. Oh well.) We walk on and treat ourselves to a fruit smoothie.

Then it’s a short tuk tuk to the hotel. YAHOO! After checking in we find the family enjoying the roof top infinity pool.

After the adventures of the past six weeks we are thrilled for the family time.

Time with family
We are hanging out with Carlee’s mom and Dad, Lionel and Tricia. Carlee’s sister Morgan and Matt are here with their adorable two year old son Atlas. Carlee’s brother Nathan and girlfriend Kail are here after two weeks island hopping in Southern Thailand.

Relaxing

Our peaceful beach vacation includes one unexpected event. A special package comes ashore at the resort. Turns out to be metamphetamine.

Adventures
In fact we do very little exploring of Koh Chang except for a snorkel boat trip organized by Chris.
We arrive at Bang Bao Pier – it is a long walk to the boat.

Carlee and Chris and great hosts – turns out we don’t have any photos of the two of them together. So you will have to wait for the next blog post.

Our first snorkel spot is Koh Kum (?)

On our way to Koh Wai there is an opportunity to try fishing. Chris turns out to be the fisherman of the hour with two catches. Chris’s second catch is a fair size. The boat staff throw it on the grill. Yum!

Our second stop is Koh Wai. The boat moors – a staff member dives in with the rope and finds the buoy. The snorkeling is better here.

Then it is back to Koh Chang. We have a great time and meet some of Chris and Carlee’s Aussie and Canadian friends!
That’s a wrap on Koh Chang except for the wedding – that is a separate post and next up!
